Today marks the one-year anniversary of the greatest threat to our democracy in modern history. On this date last year, former President Trump incited a violent, seditious attack on the United States Capitol, with an angry mob taking over the House and Senate chambers and forcing emergency evacuation or sheltering of the United States Congress, all in an effort to stop the certification of the electoral votes from the 2020 election. These insurrectionists were aided by several Members of Congress. As of today, former President Trump and his insurrectionist allies have not been held accountable for their crimes.

Free Speech For People is excited to announce that we have teamed up with Our Revolution to relaunch the 14point3 campaign, urging Secretaries of State to bar current and former elected officials who engaged in the January 6th insurrection from appearing on any future ballot under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment.

Sign our petition: Trump and his allies’ involvement in the January 6th insurrection disqualifies them from running for public office.

Section 3 of the 14th Amendment disqualifies from public office any individual who has taken an oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution and then engages in insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or gives aid or comfort to those who have. President Trump’s incitement of the violent insurrection on January 6th, which claimed the lives of five people and injured more than 140 officers, disqualifies him from holding future public office under this constitutional provision. This provision would also apply to other elected officials who gave support to the insurrectionists.

We must demand accountability and a more robust democracy in 2022. Those intent on destroying our republic must be held accountable, and we must ensure that they cannot ever hold power again.
