These disasters are not just bad luck. They are the result of our lack of action to reduce the greenhouse gases emissions that are causing a rapidly warming planet.

John,

When you look back on the natural disasters from last year, they prove beyond any doubt that we are already living through the deadly impacts of climate change.

First, in February, it was the infamous Texas freeze that disrupted the power grid and caused statewide blackouts, leaving millions of families without heat, power, or running water for a week.

In the spring and summer, the West Coast experienced a once-in-a-century heatwave, with Washington seeing record-high temperatures for the first time since 1895. With the ongoing extreme drought, the Western United States wrestled with a series of out-of-control wildfires that burned through forests and caused mass relocations for residents.

Back in autumn, the Mid-Atlantic was flooded from rainfall caused by Hurricane Ida, resulting in $64 billion in damages from Louisiana to New York City. After Thanksgiving, a tornado ripped through western Kentucky that caused at least 70 deaths in its path. And on New Year’s Eve, Colorado experienced a fast-moving wildfire that burned hundreds of homes in Boulder County.

These disasters are not just bad luck. They are the result of our lack of action to reduce the greenhouse gases emissions that are causing a rapidly warming planet. And as this past year has shown, no corner of our country is safe from these threats.

We are living with the consequences of climate inaction right now, John, It’s too late to turn back the clock, but it’s not too late to take decisive action to mitigate the future effects of climate change. We need to get serious about protecting communities suffering from these and other disasters.

That’s why we are asking you to donate to SEEC PAC today so we can fully fund our Members of Congress who are fighting tooth and nail to decrease greenhouse gas emissions and prepare for the impacts of climate change.

Thank you,

Thanks to your help in 2020, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 117th Congress while we undo the damage of the Trump Administration.
