Happy New Year from ACEH
As we go into the new year, ACEH continues to work to implement the Mass Care Exit Strategy alongside our Municipal and philanthropic partners. There has already been important progress such as the purchase of the Sockeye Inn to be used for people experiencing homelessness who have complex medical needs.
We are excited to share more about the progress on the five planks of the plan with our members, partners and weekly digest subscribers in the coming months. The ACEH team continues to grow and change in collaboration with the Homeless Prevention and Response System Advisory Council, our Board of Directors and key community stakeholders.
We are glad to have you follow along in our weekly updates. ACEH is also launching our first public messaging campaign to help people understand what ACEH does, and some important things to know about homelessness in Anchorage. If one of the videos speaks to you, let us know about it!
ACEH is also preparing to move into offices after an extended period of remote working. Sharing space with our team is an important next step for us and we are thankful to Providence for helping us in the process.

Point-in-Time (PIT) Count
The 2022 PIT Count will happen the 25th-28th of January. Because of COVID-19, volunteers will not be assisting in this year's count. Supplies or items to give out are greatly appreciated. Please reach out to Dakota to coordinate donations: [email protected]

Case Conferencing and Coordinated Entry (CE) Training
Case conferencing meets bi-weekly via Zoom. If you have any questions, or are interested in coordinated entry access point training for you or your team, please contact Mac Lyons at: [email protected]

Outreach is slightly short-staffed this week, however the plan is to carry on camp outreach according to the following dates:
- CAP posted 3 camps on 12/22/21. Abated 1/31

Meg Zaletel, ACEH Interim Executive Director is the Anchorage Press’ choice for 2021’s Person of the Year!
For sticking to principles that invariably saved and improved lives and doing it all with grace, empathy and class, Meg Zaletel is the Anchorage Press’ choice for 2021’s Person of the Year.
“Dynamic,” Zaletel described 2021 in one word. “There was a lot of just going with the unexpected, accepting each challenge as it came and hopefully doing the right thing.”
"Anything that gets folks involved is good,” Zaletel said. “I think that these are very challenging times and I tried to remember that everyone is stressed out. Covid hit everyone in a different way; the stress of uncertainty for months and months on end, and of course, you can expect pushback to restrictions. Even though it’s the right thing to do you can’t expect to be met with gladness.”

Antigen OTC Test Kits Available for Shelters and Service Providers
AHD is receiving a shipment of Antigen OTC Test Kits and is offering them to local shelters and service providers. As well as providers working in outreach.
Please contact Donald Wingate, AHD Emerging Infectious Disease Testing Support to coordinate directly to receive test kits based on your team's specific needs.

MHATS (Mental Health Advocacy Through Storytelling) and Story Works Alaska
|
|
Youth Storytelling Workshop
MHATS (Mental Health Advocacy Through Storytelling) and Story Works Alaska are collaborating to offer a free, one-day storytelling workshop to support LGBTQ+ youth & young adults (Age 12-24), and/or those who have experienced houselessness in developing true, personal stories. The workshop on January 8th, from 10-4 p.m. Lunch will be provided. More details here.

This year, the Built for Zero movement grew to 98 communities, three more U.S. communities and two international cities reached functional zero, and Community Solutions was awarded a $100 million grant to accelerate an end to homelessness.

Partnering with Persons with Lived Experience Lessons Learned Webinar – January 12, 2022 – 2:00 PM EST
In April 2021 and again in August 2021, Community Workshops, an extension of Communities of Practice (CoP) and Intensive Workshops, were offered to communities on specific topic areas that address the needs and challenges of ending homelessness. One of the topic areas offered in both workshops was how communities can authentically and meaningfully partner with persons with lived experience. The upcoming webinar on January 12, 2022, at 2:00 PM EST is an opportunity for communities to hear lessons learned from the Partnering with Persons with Lived Experience Community Workshops.
This webinar will:
- Provide an overview of the Partnering with Persons with Lived Experience Community Workshops
- Share teachable moments and learning opportunities that came out of the 2021 Community Workshops
Offer next step suggestions to communities looking to strengthen partnerships with persons with lived experience of homelessness.
