Let me be clear, folks.
Voting rights – and the very fabric of our democracy – are under attack.
There is a clear solution in front of us right now in the Senate – pass the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. But with Senate Republicans and the threat of a filibuster blocking our efforts, it’s time to reform the filibuster to get this done.
I want all of my colleagues to see how fired up folks in Virginia and across the country are about the Senate finally passing voting rights. Will you add your name to the list now and tell the Senate to bypass the filibuster and enact legislation protecting voting rights. [link removed]
We cannot make voting rights a top priority in the Senate with the standard filibuster rule in place. Republicans will continue to block the legislation. The only way to address voting rights is to enable a simple majority to pass these bills. If we made an exception to the filibuster for the debt ceiling, then why can’t we do the same for voting rights legislation?
It’s time to treat these grave threats to democracy with proper urgency. And urgent times call for urgent action, like working around the filibuster.
Sign the petition right now if you’re with me in the fight to pass voting rights legislation. [link removed]
