Hi John, It is hard to believe that it is 2022. We are so grateful for all of the year-end donations we received from supporters like you, who helped us surpass our fundraising goal to fund our gun violence prevention programs. Thank you. It is even harder to believe that an entire year has passed since Trump supporters' violent, armed insurrection at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., on January 6, 2021. Armed insurrection threatens public health, safety, and democracy, and it is our moral obligation to address it. Our partners at the Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence (EFSGV) just released a report, Defending Democracy: Addressing the Dangers of Armed Insurrection, which describes five commonsense policies to address armed insurrection. - Placing limitations on public carry of firearms
- Placing limitations on paramilitary groups
- Limiting guns in polling places, legislative buildings, and other places of political participation
- Enacting and implementing extreme risk protection order laws to temporarily disarm persons at high risk of violence
- Repealing, or creating exceptions to, state preemption laws
Moving forward, we will collaborate with EFSGV to advance these remedies, which will limit the presence of firearms in political spaces and protect the integrity of our democratic institutions. We hope you will advocate along side us throughout the year. >>Click here to learn more and read the report. Thank you, Jeri |
