Dear Friend,
Senator Bernie Sanders has called on President Joe Biden to demand that
Louis DeJoy leave the U.S. Postal Service.(1)
Sanders' call has joined the chorus of a number of public service
advocates, including Representative Katie Porter, to stop DeJoy from
destroying the mail. Although President Biden has named two nominees to
the U.S. Postal Service's governance board -- the body that has the power
to fire DeJoy -- the Senate has dragged its feet on holding the
confirmation hearings.(2)
We have to sound the alarm as Congress returns to Washington, D.C., to let
the Senate know just how much we want them to stand up for one of the
country’s oldest services. The time is NOW to ramp up the pressure for the
Senate to stop the worst postmaster general in U.S. history.

help power our campaign to stop DeJoy and save the U.S. Postal Service?
Since DeJoy has taken the reins at the U.S. Postal Service, he’s been
hell-bent on destroying one of our nation’s most cherished public
services.
DeJoy, a big-time Trump donor, has:
* Tried to sabotage the 2020 election. In the midst of the 2020 election
and the COVID-19 pandemic, when mail-in voting was set to be a key way
for Americans to cast their ballots, DeJoy decommissioned more than
600 mail sorting machines across the country, in an attempt to
suppress our votes.(3)
* Slowed down mail delivery times. In March of this year, he started
pushing a 10-year “reorganization” plan that would slow down delivery
times. Seniors depend on the postal service to deliver their Social
Security checks, and veterans receive lifesaving medications through
the USPS. We simply can’t afford delays.(4)
* Hiked postal prices. DeJoy’s U.S. Postal Service raised prices over
the fall on everything from stamps to flat mail. And if DeJoy remains
in charge, we should be prepared for mail prices to keep rising.(5)
* Committed wage theft against postal workers. A new exposé revealed
that while many mail carriers are working overtime to help deliver
during the holiday rush, carriers are reporting that the overtime
isn't showing up in their checks -- and, in fact, thousands of
managers have been caught illegally changing time cards under budget
pressure from above.(6)
The USPS governance board has the ability to stop DeJoy. However, only one
of these nominees is a stalwart defender of public services -- the other
one is a business executive.
The Democrat-controlled Senate can't let these nominees languish, or
worse, sail through without assurances that DeJoy will be stopped. Our
senators must hold hearings immediately to hold the nominees' feet to the
fire and make them promise to return the mail to the dependable public
service it was meant to be. We need your help to make that happen.
