Friend,

In the special first episode of Sounds Like Hate Season 4
[link removed]

, we travel back to the months leading up to Jan. 6, 2021, to track
white supremacists as they plan, prepare and execute their violent
plot to attack the U.S. Capitol and overturn an election.

The year preceding the insurrection was littered with red flags
warning that hate groups and extremists could reach a boiling point on
Jan. 6. In 2020, protestors took to the streets to march for racial
justice and were met with armed and sometimes aggressive
counter-protestors. COVID-19 deepened an already strained political
divide. And, white supremacists steadily grew their numbers through
online radicalization, bolstered by former President Trump's words
that they interpreted as a rallying cry.

One year after the historic and deadly assault on our Capitol, the
SPLC has dedicated this episode of Sounds Like Hate to investigating
the warning signs that culminated with a horrific attempt to destroy
our democracy. Listen now to learn more about what our hosts uncovered
as they scrutinized 2020's red flags and considered future
implications.
