Dear John,

Just a few days into the new year, we are thrilled to bring you our 2021 Impact Report. This year, we are celebrating our 5-Year Anniversary. Since our founding, we have grown to more than 60,000 volunteers, endorsed candidates in 131 races across 17 states, raised $4.25 million in small-dollar donations directly for our candidates and State Bridges partners, and reached out to 3.5 million voters through phones, texts, postcards, and door knocks.

In 2021, we continued to make a massively outsized impact, making over 70% of our campaigns’ calls to voters and raising nearly 30% of the total number of candidates’ early donations (before September 1). Over 75% of both our calls and our fundraising went to races decided by less than 5%, demonstrating that we are targeting the most strategic races.

Here are a few more of our favorite highlights from 2021:

• Our candidate class was the most diverse in our history. Of our 12 inspiring candidates, 75% were women, 66.67% were candidates of color, and 41.67% were 40 and under.
• Our volunteer community completed 225,978 phonebank calls for our candidates, and raised $558,574.
• Our volunteer ranks now include 174 teams and affiliates in 32 states.
• Together, we raised $162,719 for allied, year-round powerbuilding organizations through our State Bridges program.
• We supported progressive state legislators through launching our newly-launched Purple District Network and nurtured the state legislative leadership pipeline through our new Future Winners program, in partnership with our friends at EMILY’s List and Run for Something.
• Our award-winning political research program produced important studies on voter and volunteer engagement tactics, with results public and open to all, and our civic education programming continues to build toward a world where voters are fired up to make real change at the state legislative level.
  

We could not be more proud of what we have achieved together. But Democrats have only a tenuous majority in Washington and Republicans are already working overtime to thwart our progress by suppressing votes and stripping away rights. Sister District is ready to do our part to defend and strengthen our democracy where it starts—in the states.

We have learned first hand that the path to change is not a straight line. But with patience, perseverance, and hope, we continue striving to build the world we want to see. Thank you for staying with us!
