Hello Fairfax Young Dems!
Happy New Year Young Dems! Join us tonight starting at 7:30pm for a virtual happy hour via zoom.
The exec team has made the decision that all January events will be virtual. We do our best to share our events through social media (FB, Twitter, Instagram, Meetup.com), the FCDC calendar, the calendar on the home page of our website, and through this bimonthly newsletter, but the best place for the most updated information will always be the specific event page on our Facebook. (We also have a FB group page where members can post!)
In this newsletter, you will find information about:
- Special Meeting: New Maps, New Opportunities: Running for Office in VA
- Special Election on Tuesday, January 11th
- VAYD Virtual Lobby Day
- January's event calendar
- How to submit your own announcements

This FYD event is co-hosted by NETWORK NOVA, Herndon-Reston Indivisible, New Leaders Council Virginia, and the Virginia Young Dems.
Join local advocates and future-forward thinkers to learn how to run for office in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The new legislative maps open up opportunities for new leadership and vision for the Commonwealth. This training will cover the basics of how to run for office and how to tap into national and state resources.
We hope you can join us!
Use this link to register and receive the Zoom link for this free training.

Phonebook Opportunity for Special Election
WE HAVE A SPECIAL HOUSE ELECTION next Tuesday and we need to keep the seat. Our wonderful candidate is Jackie Glass ( www.jackie4norfolk.com).
Historically, voter turnout for special elections is PITIFUL. So we have got to get progressive voters to the polls or to vote early, despite the foul weather and the fact that we’re all worn out from covid, the Holidays and the November election. Our opponents will be working every angle and we have to match their energy and find more voters than them. Simple.
So read the info below that I gathered together in haste. How to make calls with the VA NAACP, proud that the Vote Mamas are endorsing Jackie, and at the bottom, the note I sent out to our members in Jackie’s district, letting them know that the VA NOW PAC has endorsed her and that they need to work for her.
From Joaquin Ross, the Civic Engagement Campaign Director for the Virginia NAACP. I would like to invite you to participate in our Special Election for HD 89 phone banking sessions! You will be able to make calls at any time within the hours of 10AM ET - 8PM ET. All you need is your laptop or cell phone. We will also provide you with a training video upon request so that you will know how to access and operate the system that we are using.
Please sign up for one of our sessions throughout the week on our website at vavote.us/events. We have phonebooks scheduled every day starting today, Wednesday, January 5th, through Sunday, January 9th.
