Dear Friends,

It is with mixed emotions that I share with you that James Gore, Senior Program Officer, will be leaving the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation (ZSR) to move into the role of Senior Program Officer with The Just Trust ([link removed]) , a start-up grantmaking organization focused on criminal justice reform.

James’ 13-year tenure at ZSR has resulted in countless contributions. As part of the Foundation’s All For NC Framework for Grantmaking and Learning, James has played an important role in developing strategies to support the Foundation’s State-Level Systemic Change Strategy’s Promoting Social and Economic Justice ([link removed]) portfolio, which has included addressing the economic impacts and racial disparities of the criminal justice system; embracing and expanding the contributions of and opportunities for immigrants; advancing reproductive justice; and ensuring that all North Carolinians have the chance to achieve economic self-sufficiency. James also supported the development and implementation of ZSR’s Community-Based Strategy, serving as the primary lead for the Collaborative Problem-Solving approach ([link removed]) and supporting ZSR’s Community Progress Fund ([link removed]) . In addition, James
has played a pivotal role in helping to advance the Foundation’s racial equity agenda over the last 13 years.

"It has been a distinct pleasure to serve both the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation and the state of North Carolina in advancing a more just, equitable and inclusive society,” said James. “While I may be leaving ZSR, I will remain in Charlotte, and I look forward to working with many grantees and leaders across the state in my new role."

James’ last day with the Foundation will be Tuesday, January 18, 2022. If you have any questions after that, please contact ZSR Assistant Director Nora Carr at [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) .

While James will be missed at ZSR, we are confident that he will continue to make a significant impact on the philanthropic sector and beyond.

Sincerely,

Maurice “Mo” Green
Executive Director, Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation
