3 TAKEAWAYS FROM
THE 2019 ELECTIONS
+ WHAT'S NEXT
1. ORGANIZING WORKS.
Just like every critical moment in history, yesterday's victories for a better future came down to PEOPLE POWER. From flipping ([link removed]) the Virginia legislature blue to Kentucky's new Democratic governor ([link removed]) to historic local ([link removed]) races ([link removed]) everywhere ([link removed]) , it was all about the ground game ([link removed])
of getting voters registered and turning them out to the polls by calling, texting, and knocking doors.
2. TURN RAGE INTO RESILIENCE.
Anger is a rational response to what's been happening to our people and planet. And when everyday people channeled that sacred rage into voting and running for office, we saw wins like Juli Briskman, who won a local seat after getting fired for flipping off Trump's motorcade ([link removed]) , Kentuckians replacing their shitty anti-choice governor with pro-choice champion Andy Beshear ([link removed]) , and Somali refugee Safiya Khalid overcoming racist trolls to win her council race ([link removed]) in Maine.

Plus, the Equal Rights Amendment, gun reform, and a $15 minimum wage are back on the table ([link removed]) in Virginia, and NYC voters are fed up with police violence and passed a measure to hold NYPD accountable ([link removed]) ! (Photo: @nytgender ([link removed]) )
3. THE STATUS QUO SHOULD BE SCARED. (BUT WE STILL HAVE WORK TO DO.)
Yesterday may not have been exclusively good news ([link removed]) for The People, but Trump, the spineless lawmakers who support him, and Dems who can't seem to find their courage ([link removed]) should be very ([link removed]) scared ([link removed]) about what's possible if we keep working and pushing for radical change into 2020.

This is not a time to take our feet of the gas ([link removed]) . Trump has an electoral college advantage ([link removed]) . States have gerrymandered districts ([link removed]) . Winning everywhere from the White House to Congress to state legislatures to governors' mansions in 2020 will take all of us getting organized and responding in real time to the threats to our democracy and the wellbeing of all people.
