The U.S. Senate officially reconvened yesterday and now we must make sure
passing the Build Back Better Act is their top priority.

We need solutions that match the historic, urgent crises regular, everyday
people face. The Build Back Better Act would enable meaningful investments
in housing, climate action, education, universal pre-K, and so much more.

But the latest news shows that conservative Democrats like Joe Manchin
threaten the future of this package. We refuse to let the ego of one man
block a package that would lift up millions of people in our country.

It seems like the expectation from conservative Democrats like Joe Manchin
is that people should be grateful to receive whatever Congress decides to
pass.

Apparently we have billions to add to our defense budget — but passing
meaningful legislation that would help families is a stretch? So now
Manchin’s trying to strip away core parts of Build Back Better and leave
us with crumbs.

Here in St. Louis we know that Congress only delivering “crumbs” is the
reason why our communities have been struggling for years. It’s why
families are struggling to keep their homes, children are going to bed
hungry, and why folks are going bankrupt because they can’t afford their
health care bills.
