John,
I hope your new year is off to a safe and healthy start as we continue to navigate yet another wave of COVID — this time with the Omicron variant.
Now is the time to take care of our communities, and take care of ourselves. But the message that's being sent from leaders and institutions like Dr. Fauci and the CDC says otherwise. Rather than putting people and our public health first, they are asking people to get back to work, risk their health and that of others — all while COVID cases continue to climb. Just yesterday alone, there were a record-breaking 1 million cases across the United States, with the peak still to come.
The mandate is clear: we need more COVID relief. And I'm proud to be one of the strongest advocates in Congress fighting for more relief, and to push our lawmakers to do more for the people. That's why your support would mean so much to me right now, John; can I count on you to chip in?
Rather than demanding that people get back to work and put their lives on the line, let's instead pass another COVID package with $2,000 monthly survival checks.
Let's increase COVID testing to combat the holiday surge of outbreaks and to keep our kids and educators safe as they return to school.
Let's pass a federal minimum wage and guarantee sick time for all workers.
I urge my fellow leaders in Washington to join me in making the active choice to put people before profit. Democracy and inequality cannot coexist, and we need to deliver for the people and meet them where they're at: students, families, working individuals, elderly folks. This is what we need.
Peace and love,
Jamaal
