Working Families Party member and DSA-endorsed candidate Kendra Brooks ousted one of two remaining Republicans to win a seat on the Philadelphia City Council.

Near Boston, housing justice advocate Jivan Sobrinho-Wheeler won a seat on the Cambridge City Council.

In the same election that Democrats reclaimed both chambers of Virginia government, socialist Lee Carter won reelection.

And in a win for democracy, New York City became the largest municipality to approve ranked choice voting.
