John, 2021 was historic.

Democrats began the year by electing two Senators in Georgia to win control of the Senate majority.

Weeks later, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris — the first woman, Black, and South Asian American Vice President — were sworn into office.

And in the months to come, we worked together to deliver on our promises — from delivering immediate relief for working families impacted by COVID-19, to passing a once-in-a-generation investment in our infrastructure.

But 2021 was historic for the wrong reasons, too.

One year ago this week, right-wing insurrectionists incited by the former president stormed the Capitol as a part of the ongoing effort to invalidate the 2020 election.

Over 386,000 Americans died of COVID-19 — surpassing the total for 2020. As the pandemic raged on, issues like job loss, food insecurity, and homelessness were exacerbated.

Now that we’ve rang in the new year, I’m bringing a renewed spirit of determination and urgency with me in everything I do. Change can’t wait — we need to secure the right to vote, defend access to abortion, lower childcare and healthcare costs, and take bold action to protect our climate before it’s too late.

I’m ready. And I’m grateful to have you alongside me in the fight for a better future.
