In this special episode of Sounds Like Hate Season 4, we travel back

U.S. Capitol and overturn an election. Listen to the podcast now

the hate and extremism movement reached a boiling point in the lead up

A YEAR OF EXTREMIST MOBILIZATION
[link removed]
THE ROAD TO JAN. 6
On Jan. 6, a right-wing mob stormed the U.S. Capitol at
President Trump's urging in an attempt to prevent the
certification of presidential election results. But the attack
didn't come from nowhere. It was the culmination of a year of
increasingly radical activity by a slew of extremists around the
country. They mobilized against racial justice protests, COVID-19
prevention measures, and voting rights for all Americans, and were
goaded on by the president and politicians on the right.

ONE YEAR AFTER JAN. 6
One year after Trump's supporters stormed the Capitol, the hard
right, anti-democracy faction of the Republican base that led the
attack threatens to overtake the party for the long term. This
hard-right faction, loyal to Trump, minimizes, or supports, the
violent storming of the Capitol on Jan. 6. They have worked to
systemically undermine America's democracy in the months
following the attack by installing into positions of power loyal
proponents of Trump's Big Lie and by passing a flurry of voter
suppression bills.

OUR WORK IS NEEDED NOW MORE THAN EVER
BE A PART OF OUR MOVEMENT FOR JUSTICE

The Jan. 6 attack on our Capitol and our democracy was a violent,
hateful and deadly display of the extremism that threatens our future.
This anti-democracy extremism lives all over the nation, even in the
halls of state legislatures where it has inspired voter suppression
bills that target Black, Brown and Indigenous voters, necessitating
multiple lawsuits from the SPLC and our allies. The years after this
historic assault on free, fair elections will be crucial in deciding
our democracy's future.
Will you make a gift to the SPLC today to ensure we can continue our
work to fight hate and seek justice for all?
