Dear Friend,

Yesterday, Arlington got its largest snow storm since 2019. Some of you reading this may be without power--less than 1,000 households in Arlington do not have power at the moment. Others of you will want an update on when you street is going to be cleared.
For those of you without power, the County Manager and staff has been working with Dominion to restore power to the the approximately 1,000 household without it. The Board has also engaged. To see the map of residences without power or report problems, go here: [link removed] or click on the blue button below.

Context on power outages. Regarding when power will be restored at your house, Dominion has indicated that some outages across the region may take multiple days. However, in Arlington, Dominion has shared with us that it believes almost all power will be restored by 11 pm this evening. This is not a guarantee, but it is an indication that we believe power in Arlington will be restored sooner than the multiple days estimate.

The precise timing when your power will be restored will depend on exactly what led to the outage. Please stay tuned for Dominion and Arlington County updates. And please know that Arlington has fewer without power than many localities in Northern Virginia--1,000 as opposed to the 15K in Fairfax and 9k in Prince Williams. Crews are also facing difficulty getting here due to the traffic stuck on I-95.

With respect to plowing and street clearing, we are working on residential streets. The button above contains the big picture of resources regarding snow removal. (Copy this link if the button doesn't work for you: [link removed]) Big picture "primary routes" have been cleared, but "residential streets" are still in the process. If you do not need to go out, please do not so that the crews can work as quickly as possible. Below and via this link you can access a map of progress: [link removed]

Finally, some of you have asked if COVID is impacting our snow clearing crews. The answer to that is yes as to yesterday, but we have been working to get more crews on the streets and we are making steady progress overall today. This is a major snow so we will not be able to get to all streets today or tomorrow, but our snow response staff and drivers will continue to work to get to as many as possible as quickly as possible.

Stay safe,

Matt
