Friend – almost one year ago, my colleagues and I crouched down in the gallery of the House, fearing for the worst. As we put on gas masks, Trump supporters ran through the halls, waving Confederate flags and threatening to hang the vice president.

While my colleagues and I feared for our lives, Republican leaders texted Trump's chief of staff to urge the former president to stop the escalating violence. But Trump refused to tell his supporters to stop attacking the U.S. Capitol. People died as a result, including five Capitol Police officers.

Now, Trump and his associates are doing everything they can to sweep this tragedy under the rug. Trump's chief of staff is even refusing to cooperate with the congressional bipartisan investigation.

As a congresswoman, as a former chief of police and as an American, I firmly believe that NO ONE is above the law. That's why I argued the case for Trump's first impeachment in front of the Senate, and that's why I voted to investigate the Jan. 6 riot.

I'm asking you to join me in speaking out to hold Trump accountable, uphold our rule of law and preserve our democracy. If we fail to act during this dark moment, we'll continue to see attacks that undermine our democracy. That's why I'm counting on you today:

Please, before my petition closes at midnight tonight, will you add your name to demand accountability for Donald Trump?

I know these are dark times, but I promise you this: So long as we fight for justice together, we are going to win, and democracy is going to stand.
