Hi John,

 

My name is Yara Shahidi and I am a change agent, producer, and actress on the show black-ish on ABC. This week, we’re airing a special episode that features the one and only Michelle Obama and highlights the commitment of the organization, When We All Vote, to increase access and change the culture of voting across the country.

 

For my 18th birthday, I held a “Get Registered to Vote” party -- because, as a new-ish voter, I was and still am excited to take part in our voting process.  Protecting the right to vote is a priority for me and so many of my peers and mentors, like Mrs. Obama! 

 

And it’s so exciting to know that we all have the power to help shape policies all the way from the federal government to the local level.

 

But this can only happen if we each make our voices heard. 

 

The 2022 elections are right around the corner! I know, I know…2022 JUST BEGAN! So let’s take this time and opportunity to focus on next steps.  

 

I’m grateful that organizations like When We All Vote are fighting to protect our democracy, by registering thousands of people to vote, and empowering my peers and I to get involved!  

 

One of the most important things you can do today is -- YOU GUESSED IT -- check your voter registration status and if you haven’t, register to vote!

And don’t forget to tune into our very special episode of Black-ish on ABC tonight at 9:30pm ET.
