Friend,
A year ago today, I was elected to represent Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District. I ran to help build a movement that reflects working people -- not corporations or the wealthy few.
We didn’t just win the election -- we got 78% of the vote without accepting a cent of corporate money. We went to homes and local businesses and connected with our neighbors about what unites us. We came together to fight for the soul of our democracy and the future of our planet.
I say “we” because this campaign isn’t about me. It’s about the people-powered movement we’ve created together. It all comes down to our shared belief that healthcare, education, housing, a fair living wage, and clean air and water aren’t privileges, but human rights.

Since I was sworn in to the U.S. House of Representatives in January, Democrats have passed legislation that could raise the federal minimum wage, require universal background checks for gun purchases, and protect our democracy by strengthening election security.
Every day, our movement inspires me to fight tirelessly for progressive reforms. I haven’t let up in my work to pass Medicare for All, enact a Green New Deal, cancel all student debt, and finally repeal the Muslim ban.
Let me be clear: No matter how much Donald Trump or his propagandists try to distract from our work with racist smears and hollow accusations, I will always keep my eyes on the progress we’re making together.
On election night, I promised to fight for the America we deserve. I meant it.
If the past year has shown us anything, it’s that small dollars and big ideas are stronger than corporate money and bigotry.
As you know, being part of this squad requires nothing but a commitment to a just and equitable world. But if you have even a few dollars you’re willing to donate toward our movement for progress, please click here today.
Working people sent me to Congress. Working people will keep me there.
Thanks for giving truth and equality a powerful platform,
Ilhan
