Putting pressure on the senators we think are most likely to listen is an investment in the 2021 we want to see
Happy day-after-Election-Day! Last night, we saw some historic and critically important progressive wins in local, state, and federal elections alike (check our Twitter feed for all the success stories!). These wins were made possible by the hard work and dedication of Indivisibles nationwide, and we’re so excited about what our grassroots movement has accomplished. But something really common is that after a victory, we lose some momentum -- and we can’t risk that right now. We must keep up the fight to hold representatives accountable -- so take a breath to celebrate, then read on to hear more about what we’re up to!

Indivisibles,

We’ve gotten some questions recently about why we’re running ads targeting Republican senators on impeachment, especially when some of them have been so clear that they’re willing to stay in Trump’s pocket.

So we want to take a minute to explain, in a little more detail, why pressuring vulnerable Senate Republicans is an important strategy. (After that, we are going to ask you to pitch in to keep our ads live and support all our work -- every gift you make will be matched by generous donors up to $15,000!)

We’ve identified 13 senators who, in our assessment, need to hear the message about Trump’s crimes (for more info about who we’re targeting, take a look at the email we sent a few weeks ago). We chose them specifically because they’re up for re-election in vulnerable states, or they’re retiring and worrying about their legacies, or, quite frankly, they have a history of being (relatively) reasonable.

Perhaps more importantly, though, many of these senators come from states where Trump’s support is underwater. This impeachment fight is partially a referendum on Trump -- but it’s also a chance for us to get senators on the record about their priorities. An impeachment trial will force every senator to reckon with whether they support Trump’s conduct, whether they’re willing to excuse a president committing crimes, and whether they really believe in protecting American democracy.

Putting pressure on the senators we think are most likely to listen is an investment in the 2021 we want to see. Yes, we believe Trump should be removed from office because of his crimes, but even if that doesn’t happen, our movement will have a ton of leverage with these senators (or their successors) as a result of this vote.

But all the tactics we’re using -- our digital ad campaign, HubDialer, our emailing and calling tools, and more -- come with costs. We don’t take money from political parties or corporations to power our work, because we need to be an independent voice for democracy. That means we need people like you to make an investment in our work.

Can you make a $10 donation today to power our ad campaign and support all our plans? Every gift will be matched up to $15,000 -- so you’ll have double the impact.

You may be asking, “How do I and my $10 fit into this big strategy?” We’re putting our strategy into action with a three-pronged approach:

  1. Getting Indivisibles to call their own senators. As always, our first priority is that you take action -- no matter who your senators are, call them and let them know you support a fair and transparent impeachment trial. If your senator is already supportive, thank them and tell them you’ve got their back. If they’re not, pressure them to listen to their constituents.

  2. Helping Indivisibles drive even more calls to Senate offices. With HubDialer, our state of the art calling tool, Indivisibles who want to do more can contact friendly progressive voters in target states and connect those people directly to their senators. This is a great way to multiply your impact -- we’re on our way to calling 1.1 MILLION voters, and Indivisibles have already made more than 360,000 calls.

  3. Running targeted ads to further increase pressure. Our ad campaign is reaching even more voters in key states to really up the ante for our 13 target senators. We’ve already reached almost 3 million people and driven thousands of calls into Senate offices, and our ads will continue to have more impact as they reach more people.

With these three angles, our movement can build the pressure we need to show every senator that this fight matters -- and that their constituents won’t let them forget which side they were on.

We’ve always been about holding representatives accountable to their constituents, not to corporate donors and party lines. So right now, we’re building the constituent pressure it’ll take to show our senators that we expect our elected officials to have integrity.

That pressure comes from you. So today we’re asking you to make an investment in all the resources it’ll take to make it happen. Please, chip in $10 right now to put our impeachment strategy -- and all our plans for 2020 and beyond -- into action.
