They are trying to roll back commonsense methane pollution rules to stop methane leaks at oil and gas wells. This is a gift to the fossil fuel industry, which claims they can reduce methane leaks on their own. The opposite has proven true. Their “voluntary” pollution reduction programs to date represent just a small fraction of the industry and on their own are not enough to address methane from the oil and gas industry, which is why we need strong federal protections. Even Shell and other large gas producers publicly concede we need them. WE NEED YOUR VOICE: Tell Wheeler and Trump that our health must come before corporate polluters. Methane is a huge driver of climate change, and Wheeler and Trump’s reckless rollback of these critical protections would put our families and environment at risk. If we’re serious about addressing climate change, we need to significantly cut methane from the oil and gas industry, one of the leading sources of this pollution. This rollback marks the beginning of a scheme by Wheeler and Trump to dramatically weaken efforts to reduce dangerous pollution, ignoring EPA’s core mission to protect our health and environment.
