John,
After months of pressure by DFA members, our campaign to get the Senate to act on protecting the cornerstone of our democracy, voting rights, is finally working.
Earlier today, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced that the Senate will vote on filibuster rules changes so we can finally advance voting rights legislation that has been held back by Senate Republicans hellbent on destroying our democracy.
It's about time that Senate Democrats step up to the plate and work to reform the filibuster. But, we can't just hope they do away with the filibuster, we have to continue pushing to make them act.
That's why we’re calling for the Senate to act NOW. Will you sign your name to join us as we push Senate Democrats to protect voting rights by ending the filibuster?
One of the biggest roadblocks for Democrats passing any sort of legislation is the filibuster, a racist relic of the Jim Crow era, that allows a minority of Senators to block voting on proposed legislation unless 60 or more Senators vote to end debate.
Thanks to the filibuster, even a Republican minority in the Senate can block the vast majority of policies, including key voting rights legislation.
Let’s be clear: Republicans do not shy away from changing the Senate rules when they want to pass their top priorities. With Democrats now in control, they need to have the same determination to deliver an agenda that fights voter suppression and protects our democratic rights.
We cannot allow an extreme minority to block key voting rights legislation. Will you sign your name to join our fight?
Thank you for your activism, together we can protect voting rights and end the filibuster once and for all.
