How Medicare safely covers opioids

Opioid medications help treat pain but also carry risk of addiction, overdose, and death. As a result, Medicare has implemented policies to help Part D prescription drug plans address opioid misuse. A new fact sheet created for NCOA by the Medicare Rights Center describes two of these policies: drug management program lock-ins and safety edits.
