Growing up in the Western Addition, I never dreamed I would have the incredible opportunity to serve the people of this City as Mayor, and I am truly humbled and honored to continue that service for the next four years. I want to thank the voters of San Francisco for their confidence and their trust, and I want to thank you for your unwavering support and help in this campaign.
Last night we came together to celebrate our re-election to my first four-year term as Mayor, and the passage of Proposition A that will provide critical funding for affordable housing. Today, we get back to work addressing our City’s challenges head-on and with renewed determination.
We have accomplished a lot in the last sixteen months, but it’s only the beginning. We will get people in crisis off our streets and into treatment and housing. We will make our streets safer and cleaner for all. We will build more housing and make our public transportation system more efficient. We will lift up our small businesses who are struggling to get by. We will create a more just and equitable San Francisco. It’s not going to be easy, but I believe that working together we can and we will make a difference.
We saw incredible victories at the ballot that will help us make these changes for our city. With the passage of Prop A, the largest affordable housing bond in our City’s history, we will be able to build more housing for seniors, for low-income and middle-income residents, for our public housing residents. While it’s going to take more than money to solve our housing crisis, this funding will absolutely help our City provide new homes for those most in need.
I want to thank everyone who gets up each and every day to work to make this City a better place. It takes everyone — the bus drivers and the street cleaners, the beat officers and the firefighters, the nurses and the social workers — to make this City run.
Today we get back to work!
