Dear Friend,
First, I want to wish you a Happy New Year! It’s been a big few years for drug policy reform. We took huge strides toward treating drug use as a health issue, not a criminal problem. We won significant victories for marijuana justice. And we made progress uprooting the drug war from our daily lives.
In our latest video, we try to run through our biggest wins in the last two years…in under two minutes. Think we can do it? Watch the video to find out.
Thank you, Friend for your support. The victories in the video are because of you. Whether you signed petitions, contacted your elected officials, engaged in the conversation on social media, or made a generous donation, you helped move us significantly closer to ending this disastrous drug war.
A drug war that comes at a cost. |

More than 100,000 friends, family, and loved ones died from an accidental drug overdose in the first year of the pandemic.
|
• |
More than 1 million arrests for simple possession alone in 2020, funneling countless people to the criminal justice system. And due to targeted policing and enforcement, Black, Latinx, and Indigenous people make up a disproportionate share of arrests.
|
• |
More than $47 billion in taxpayer money wasted enforcing the drug war last year.

You play a vital role for DPA – the leading drug policy reform organization in the U.S. Your support is key to ending the war on drugs and its devastating harms, and building in its place an alternative approach grounded in science, compassion, health, and human rights.
I hope we can count on your support in this new year so we can accomplish so much more together. You can help fuel this work with a one-time gift today. Or fuel this work year-round by joining the Reformer’s Club with a monthly donation of as little as $8. Join the fight with your donation today and help us do more to end the war on drugs in 2022.
We have a lot of work ahead of us. Drug possession is the most arrested offense in the United States, with one person arrested every 31 seconds. We can’t wait – it’s time to decriminalize drugs now. As a DPA supporter and activist, we’ll share more this year about our campaign to decriminalize drugs in Washington, D.C., a potentially huge win in the nation’s capital, and other exciting campaigns.
Our goal is to ensure 100 million people live in place where drugs are decriminalized and health and support services are expanded by 2030. It’s time to stop punishing people for drugs and instead offer support.
Together, we can do it. Together, we will do it.

Sincerely,
Kassandra Frederique
