Earlier this week, the Trump administration began the formal process to withdraw the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement.
This puts our country on a path to withdraw officially on November 4, 2020. That’s just one day after Election Day — making next year’s election even more important than it already was.
But here’s the thing: It has to be about more than the presidential campaign. Simply electing a president who will lead on confronting the climate crisis is not enough. She or he will need a Democratic Congress committed to passing aggressive solutions, like the Green New Deal.
That’s why our race is so important. Henry Cuellar has spent years voting with Big Oil, and they’ve returned the favor by giving hundreds of thousands of dollars from their corporate PACs.
I will fight for aggressive solutions in Congress, but first I need your help now to build a movement that can defeat Henry Cuellar and his Big Oil backers.
Every day the threat of climate change becomes more urgent. Scientists estimate that we have roughly 10 years to solve this crisis and prevent irreversible damage to our planet.
We have a moral responsibility to address the scale, scope, and magnitude of this crisis with bold, ambitious ideas.
Henry Cuellar is not willing to do that. Since Trump’s announcement on Monday, he has been silent on this issue. He has got to go.
In solidarity,
Jessica
