** Vicky Ford InTouch July 2019
------------------------------------------------------------
It has been an incredibly busy time in British Politics and as Parliament is set to soon rise for the Summer Recess, I thought I would update you with a few of the things I have been doing both in Chelmsford and in Westminster.

As ever, please do stay in touch. My email is [email protected]

** Update From Local Police
------------------------------------------------------------
The Police Minister, Nick Hurd MP, came to Chelmsford to meet with police officers and staff as a part of the Government's Front Line Review, which looks at issues affecting policing across the country. Recently 73 new officers have completed their training in Essex. Increased police numbers is helping to make a huge difference in combating local crime, especially anti drugs gang operations, which have led to the arrest of over 50 people across Essex. I joined the Minister and police on a patrol through the city centre.

** Climate Change Action
------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you to the Chelmsford residents who came to Westminster as a part of "The Time is Now" mass lobby about climate change and the environment. The UK is now the first major economy in the world to pass laws to stop putting more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The "Net Zero" law will involve significant changes to how we produce energy and how we use it. I have been working with a Conservative Environment Network on producing an in-depth manifesto for future environment policy. You can read it here ([link removed]) .

** Local Libraries Saved
------------------------------------------------------------
I am delighted that Essex County Council has announced that all of Chelmsford's libraries will remain open. Thank you to all those who worked so hard on the campaign, especially to Springfield and Galleywood Parish Councils and Anthony McQuiggan and Susan Sullivan who chaired the Parish Councils during much of this period.

** Rails and Road
------------------------------------------------------------
The project for our second railway station is now a strategic priority for the entire Great Eastern Main Line. The plans include a passing loop which will bring capacity for additional trains along the entire line. The funding bid is currently being reviewed by the Government.

The Roads Minister came to Chelmsford for a road safety project. I made sure he saw the Army and Navy first hand and briefed him on the Task Force. We have now identified 8 options for the long-term solution and engineers are examining detailed forecasts on each option.

** NHS News
------------------------------------------------------------
The Mid Essex Clinical Commissioning Group, which is responsible for local NHS services has received a "Good" rating in a recent inspection. The Chief Executive of Mid Essex Hospitals has told me that they are moving ahead with improvements to specialist services. With the first phase involving vascular, urology, radiology and orthopaedic services at Broomfield, Basildon and Southend Hospitals, around 2,500 patients per year will benefit from improved access to care. The hospitals have also recently completed recruiting 300 new nurses. Welcome!

** Leadership Candidate in Chelmsford
------------------------------------------------------------
It was great to have the Foreign Secretary, Jeremy Hunt MP visit Chelmsford and thank you to all those residents who stopped to talk with him. He enjoyed meeting with a huge number of residents, including medical students from Anglia Ruskin and traders in the covered market - which looks fantastic after its latest refurbishment.
Jacob Rees-Mogg MP also came to Chelmsford in support of Boris Johnson MP's leadership campaign. He spoke to local Conservative Party members.

** Local Students in Westminster
------------------------------------------------------------
It was great to be joined by 14 Chelmsford students for a three day work experience programme last week. They have been in Westminster and in Chelmsford learning more about the role of a Member of Parliament, local government and national politics. And they’ve also given me super tips on my own social media. Thank you so much!

** England's Cricket Triumph!
------------------------------------------------------------
And finally - I had an incredible day at the cricket World Cup final, as the MP representing Essex cricket. I was lucky to sit beside the New Zealand Shadow Sports Minister Nikki Kaye MP for the nail biting finale. What a day!
