LOOK AT THE INCREDIBLE DIFFERENCE YOU'VE MADE! |
Hello John
Thank
you so much for all your support throughout 2021. It has been a difficult year
in so many ways. But also another
remarkable year, with so many highlights thanks to YOU. |
WORLD'S BIGGEST BOMA BUILT |
You
reinforced a 500m night shelter in Amboseli, Kenya to protect livestock and
encourage coexistence with lions. Since 2010, that’s 357 bomas built while
lions have increased by an incredible 182% from 50 to 141! READ MORE |

SAVING TIGERS, ONE AT A TIME |
You
helped raise over £50,000 to keep wild tigers safe from poachers, stop captive
suffering and care for individuals – not least Sandro, now safe and happy at a
sanctuary in Italy after years in a barren zoo pen. READ MORE |
|
Six
projects are now benefitting from our 2021 McKenna-Travers awards. So,
YOU now help protect bonobos in Congo, spider monkeys in the Amazon,
grey parrots in Cameroon and more. Fantastic! READ MORE |

|
Thanks
to your generous gifts, our Save Africa’s Giants appeal raised over £53,000 to
keep rare giraffes and elephants safe in our charity’s homeland of Meru in
Kenya, the park where Elsa the lioness returned to the wild. |
|
But,
you’ve already had an impact in Meru. Lions AND rhinos are on the up, with
seven cubs born to Elsa’s Pride in 2021, and TEN rhino births. Meanwhile in
Borneo, nine new orangutans were born in Lamandau Reserve. |
|
You
helped our team of scientists and vets publish FOUR hard-hitting reports on
captive wildlife exploitation, not least ‘Christmas reindeer’ and wild pets. We
are calling on the UK government to radically overhaul legislation. |
|
|
After
years of our campaigning, aided by you, South Africa at last looks set to ban
the cruel trophy hunting of captive-bred lions, while the UK could at last
phase out keeping elephants in zoos AND ban the import of trophies from wild
animals shot for ‘fun’. Result! READ MORE |

GOODBYE CIRCUS, HELLO AFRICA |
Safe at their tranquil, temporary home in France, plans are afoot to move our four
‘lockdown lions’ to our sanctuary in South Africa. We’ll be in touch soon with
more news but, aided by your donations, we’re working hard to secure flights
and obtain permits. READ MORE |
|
YOU'RE A RESCUE & CARE CHAMPION! |
There’s
barely room to report on the thousands of other animals you look after. From
orphan pangolins and bear cubs rehabilitated to the wild, to dozens of big cats
given lifetime care in wonderful sanctuaries including lonely lion King now
blissful with Thea. READ MORE |

|
None
of this lifesaving work could be possible without you. The animals can’t tell
you how grateful they are, but we can. So, thank you, from the bottom of our
hearts.
We
are looking forward to this new year, Born Free’s Year of the Lion, with hope
and optimism. Let’s keep wildlife in the wild in 2022. And forever. |
