John – I promise there's a good reason why I'm emailing you the night of New Year's Eve. You see, I'm up against a really important deadline of my own tonight. When the ball drops, time's up on the final fundraising quarter of 2021, and what we've raised in our race to defeat Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) will be publicly reported to the FEC. As of right now, I'm still $7,280 short of what we need to raise before this deadline. We're so close to hitting this goal, so I hope you'll give me a moment to explain why making up this final gap is important.
You see, when our fundraising numbers go public, the political pundits and GOP establishment and even Sen. Grassley himself will look at them to judge the strength of our campaign. Hitting big goals like this will determine whether we're able to go toe-to-toe with Republican spending. Whether we can get our first TV ads up quickly and reach voters. Whether or not we enter the election year strong and ready to compete.
But for me, it's a whole lot deeper than all that – because defeating Sen. Grassley isn't just about flipping a Senate seat blue. It's about fighting for working families like my own, whom Sen. Grassley turned his back on long ago. It's about what used to be an easy notion of standing up for our democracy. It's about giving working families a real sense of hope in who's fighting for them in the Senate.
So please, I know it's late, and I'm sure you've got a lot on your mind as we enter the new year – but I've got to ask just once more: Can you please help us hit our final goal of the year by donating $5 or whatever you can spare?
