The General Assembly FLIPPED!

Dear John,

Yesterday, Virginians took to the polls and took back their General Assembly — flipping both the state Senate and the House of Delegates — to a majority that supports reproductive freedom!

We partnered with NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia to run a multi-layered campaign in key districts to educate and turn out voters. Between digital ads and thousands of doors knocked and phones called, dedicated activists on the ground left no stone unturned in the fight for Virginia.

We’re particularly proud of the candidates for General Assembly endorsed by the NIRH Action Fund who ran on bold platforms of supporting reproductive freedom and rejecting false claims and misinformation, like Delegate Hala Ayala (HD51), Delegate Elizabeth Guzman (HD31), Delegate Kathy Tran (HD42), and Senate Candidate Ghazala Hashmi (SD10)!

These candidates proved that it is possible to run and win by being out-loud supporters of abortion access -- and Virginia voters proved that they believe that abortion care should remain safe, legal and accessible, so all of us can control our own bodies, lives, and futures – in Virginia and beyond.

With your support, we can continue to run hard-hitting political campaigns, work with partners on the ground in cities and states to win elections, and work with candidates to make sure they have the best messaging possible — messaging that is proactive and unapologetic on protecting access to abortion. Can you chip in to invest in leadership that won’t compromise on our reproductive freedom?

We're thrilled to head into 2020 by taking what we’ve learned in Virginia to demonstrate how candidates in states across the country can run and win by protecting and advancing reproductive freedom.

In solidarity,

Andrea Miller
President
NIRH Action Fund

PS: The wins didn’t stop in Virginia! We’re so excited to see that New York City voters supported the ballot measure to incorporate ranked choice voting into future elections, ushering in a new era of more equitable voting in primary and special elections! More on what that means here.
