I would like to take a moment to explain why hitting this deadline is so important to me.

Unlike many in Congress, I know what it is like to economically struggle.

My mother relied on government assistance to put food on the table.

Through her support, hard work and determination, I beat the odds and made it to Harvard.

I joined the Marines to give back to the country that’s given me so much. Now, I’m proud to serve my country even further as a congressman.

I have dedicated my life to better this nation -- which is why passing historic legislation, like the Build Back Better Act, is so important to me.

Because if we don’t fix the broken systems that cause poverty, discrimination, and so much more -- our country will never be the best it can be.

I didn’t grow up with a silver spoon in my mouth, but that’s what makes me work so much harder for everyday families.

The legislation I pass isn’t about my own political gain. It’s about ensuring my constituents have someone who’s looking out for them.
