Almost two years ago, President Trump announced that the U.S. would pull out of the historic Paris Climate Agreement in 2020. This will leave the United States as the only country on the planet not part of this agreement which was designed to work globally to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reduce the catastrophic effects of climate change.

Yesterday Donald Trump formally initiated the U.S. exit from the agreement, a year-long process that will take effect on November 4, 2020 - the day after the election. It's like he's daring us to vote him out of office.

Let's call his bluff.

Rather than lament, let's use this occasion to mobilize for 2020. Climate change threatens our existence and the United States needs a new president to lead the world in creating a green sustainable future and a livable planet.

Transportation is the largest source of carbon pollution in the U.S. and the cost of inaction is too great. As Chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I'm focused on implementing bold new technologies that will move our country away from fossil fuel consumption, electrify our highways, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and create a 21st-century transportation system

I have directed all six of my subcommittees to find ways to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. I am also proud to be an original cosponsor of the Climate Emergency Bill, the Green New Deal, and a cosponsor of the Climate Action Now Act.

The future of our climate and the fate of our environment demand urgent action. Let's build on our historic success in 2018 and make an impact together in 2020 by fighting to keep the House of Representatives blue, and taking back the Senate and the White House.

In 2020 we will reclaim our government and put it back into the hands of the people of the United States.

Peter
