I’ll keep this quick, but can you give me a minute to explain why I need you to make a $3 donation to my campaign before our FEC deadline at midnight?

After this deadline, our campaign is legally required to report our fundraising numbers publicly. The gun lobby and Republicans are going to be looking at our numbers to size up our movement.

Our opponents are looking for vulnerabilities — ways they can say that our movement to change our gun laws and save lives has lost momentum, or that Democrats don’t have what it takes to hold the Senate.

I don’t want to give them any reason to question that we’re as strong or committed as ever. So we’ve set a modest fundraising goal that can help us demonstrate that our movement is stronger than ever. So I’m asking:

If you can, please consider making a $3 contribution to our campaign before tonight’s FEC deadline. It’d mean a lot to me personally, and every dollar will go toward funding our campaign’s ongoing organizing and communications work.

As I hope you know, I personally try not to ask for your financial support too often — only when it’s important. And the truth is I’m asking because today is one of those important days.

Grassroots support keeps my time at fundraising events and on the phones to a minimum, so I can focus on the work you expect from your Senator. I am lucky compared to most of my colleagues, and that’s because of you.

For that and for all you do to support the fight for our shared values, I am immensely grateful.
