Dear John,
I’ve been with Verified Voting since the beginning, as we’ve gone from a small but determined cohort of computer scientists, to the first resource both experts working in the field and everyday voters turn to for guidance. So when I say our work has never been more important or in need of support, I do not use those words lightly.
Time and time again, we’ve seen that the ability to provide justified confidence in election results comes down to the groundwork that we are able to lay in the months and weeks ahead of the election: making sure that there are paper ballots and backups of critical systems, that strong chain of custody measures are observed, and that post-election audits are rigorous, routine, and transparent. We are keenly aware that very few months remain before the first primaries of 2022, to say nothing of the November midterm elections.
For all that we’ve grown since those early days, the number of states and jurisdictions looking to us for help only continues to grow as well. We need you so we can keep building connections with election officials and the voters they serve, while bringing them the best practices, training, and resources for communicating why those measures help strengthen our elections to their communities.
Our battle for the American mind against the ongoing flood of disinformation is not an easy one. But we are not alone in that fight, and we are armed with the tools and nonpartisan information about how our elections work that officials and voters alike need. With your support, we can keep growing our library of resources and refining our one-of-a-kind data that informs critical policy decisions and gives voters answers about how their votes are cast – and continue to monitor the ever-changing threats and challenges we face.
Before these final hours of 2021 are over, please join me and the rest of the Verified Voting team in making a commitment to secure elections and a stronger democracy. Our work for voters never stops, because we won’t rest until all voters have justified confidence their vote will be counted as cast – and we can’t do it without you.
With thanks,
Barbara Simons, Verified Voting Board Chair
