Dear John,
Over the last four weeks, you have gotten to know 12 of the wonderful folks who help make PolicyLink a powerful and diverse workplace devoted to rebuilding a nation and representing the needs of all. Our aim is to mirror the population of the country and to ensure that all voices are heard and have a part in reshaping our future together. We hope you have seen yourself and your values reflected in our staff and been reminded of others in your community.
The last few years have been challenging. We have been faced with not just a global health crisis, but a crisis of our moral imperative as a nation. Covid has highlighted inequities on a global stage and the murder of George Floyd has moved many to action. Through the pandemic and the racial reckoning, it’s clearer than ever how our individual actions and choices alone are not enough — our fates are tied together and therefore we must lean into collective action. The global protests of 2020 showed that when we come together to fight for all, we can build a better nation. Through challenge there is opportunity, and with our collective strength we can redesign a nation that benefits all. This moment is like none before and it is now that the work of PolicyLink, and the broader equity movement, is not only desperately needed, but also seen and valued for the results it delivers in communities across the country.
When we began this work, the concept of racial equity was not yet realized by the general population. Still, we persisted and continued to do the work. Much has changed in that time, many have joined us on this journey, and now seeing the public outcry for racial equity like never before, we believe that this is our moment. We have the experience behind us, we have deep partnerships with grassroots leaders and communities, and we are ready to move forward with a vision of Winning on Equity. Together we will create a just nation. We hope you will join us.
