John, FDR once said, “Democracy is not a static thing. It is an everlasting march.” That march depends on us, on you. It relies on our willingness to stand up for our country and the promise of political equality for all. It relies on our determination to keep fighting. When you make a donation to Free Speech For People, you’re continuing that march through our bold actions in courts and legislatures across the country. Your support allows us to fight voter suppression; advocate for bills to keep multinational corporations and social media giants from interfering with our elections; and hold corrupt officials accountable to the American people. Donate today to help us restore our democracy to we, the people. Thanks to your support, Free Speech For People has continued to serve as a bold and catalyzing leader in the movement to restore our democracy. - We challenged voter suppression laws in Arizona and Texas which will restrict early voting and vote-by-mail access, purge voter rolls, and legalize dangerous attempts to intimidate voters and election officials. These measures are designed to disenfranchise racial minorities and threaten our fundamental voting rights.
- We launched a campaign to hold President Trump and his allies accountable for inciting the violent insurrection on the U.S. Capitol on January 6th. The attack sought to overturn the results of a free and fair election and, under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, certain current and former elected officials are now disqualified from holding public office. We are calling on chief election officials in all fifty states and the District of Columbia to adhere to the mandate of Section 3 and bar insurrectionists from appearing on any future ballot.
- We introduced the Digital Accountability Act, model legislation designed to hold social media companies accountable for spreading disinformation and promoting the use of violence to attack our democracy and our people. This bill would protect internet users, voters, and the broader community from Big Tech’s commercial exploitation that risks their personal privacy and safety.
- We advanced our model legislation ending campaign spending by foreign-influenced corporations in states across the country, and Congressman Jamie Raskin has now introduced our bill in Congress. If enacted, this legislation would prohibit companies with partial foreign ownership, like Amazon, from making political expenditures in our elections.
You helped us achieve this incredible progress. With the new year just around the corner, we must be prepared to do everything within our power to give every American an equal voice and an equal vote in our democracy. Our march continues.
