As Much As Possible For As Many As Possible!

Dear John,

Amidst a continuing worldwide public health crisis and the escalating needs from communities impacted by the pandemic, UAF continues to respond to requests for rapid support from feminist activists who are fighting for all of our rights.

UAF is connecting with new partners and distributing more resources than ever before. In 2021 ‒ for the first time in our history ‒ UAF granted nearly $2.2 million in one year to women and trans human rights defenders in our regions. Through the 300+ grants we gave this year, we supported the advocacy efforts of activists across the globe around LGBTQI rights, gender-based violence, women’s rights, freedom from discrimination, climate justice and much more. This work was possible because of you!

Stand With Feminist Activists!
During the pandemic, authoritarian regimes have used lockdowns as an excuse to erase civic spaces, and existing inequities from decades of systemic racism, economic inequality, and limited social safety nets have been magnified and exacerbated. UAF is committed to supporting activists at the forefront of these struggles.

Now as we come to the end of 2021, we look back at the support we have been able to provide to frontline feminist activists. As of today, we provided a total amount of $2,372,276.00 via 327 rapid response grants to women, girls and trans human rights defenders across our regions. 167 of these were safety and security grants, awarded to women and trans human rights defenders facing threats as a result of their human rights work. 109 were opportunity grants, awarded at unexpected moments for mobilization or opportunities for advocacy.  We also supported extra initiatives throughout the year like 24 grants towards our Feminist Innovation Fund, 23 grants for the Beijing +25 Advocacy grants, and 4 grants to conduct feminist convenings.

Stand With Feminist Activists!

Our commitment to supporting movements through rapid response grantmaking always carries the aspiration of “as much as possible for as many as possible.” Thank you for joining us in this work!

Sending love and hope,
Kate Kroeger
