Dear John,
This year we’ve been inundated with disasters and challenges beyond the pandemic. Gaza and Syria continue to be in conflict. Afghanistan has occupied the headlines for months. Haiti once more faced a natural disaster when a 7.2-magnitude earthquake flattened buildings and took lives.
We know what this can feel like. John, you don’t have to imagine because, in many ways, you can relate. As we grappled with our own challenges of lockdowns and the health crises in the United States, Hurricanes Ida and Grace flooded the east coast, wildfires devastated California and Oregon again this year, and now deadly tornadoes have torn across the Midwest.
And yet today I’m asking you for a gift to help families in need around the world—families just like ours: grandparents, children, sisters, friends and neighbors. We all have unique challenges and live in different environments. But we can work together—along with people around the world—to help families in need thrive in 2022.
