This year, we witnessed some of the most disturbing moments in our nation’s history.
After failing to overturn the election results of 2020, Christian Nationalists redoubled their efforts to gain power and reshape our country according to their narrow and warped version of Christianity.
By early April, 47 states proposed over 350 bills to address alleged voter fraud by limiting mail, early in-person, and Election Day voting through stricter ID requirements, limiting eligibility to vote absentee, or fewer voting hours.
By May, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed into law the most extreme abortion ban in the U.S., which criminalizes abortion at approximately six weeks, before most people even know they’re pregnant. The Supreme Court allowed the law to stand, signaling an extreme erosion in abortion rights.
By November, a sweep of statewide seats in Virginia, including Governor-elect Glenn Younkin “the most explicitly evangelical candidate in the modern Virginia party”, demonstrated the power and energy of the Christian Nationalist movement to win in a state where President Biden won by more than 10%.

John, we have reason to hope: the participation of atheist, agnostic, and religiously unaffiliated voters has doubled since 2014. In the 2020 election, our community comprised 25% of all voters, up from just 12% in 2014.
All we need to do now is out-organize the religious right. With your end-of-year gift, we can do just that.
