Today, I can’t help but think back to this time in 2009.
Democrats across the country were still celebrating President Obama’s historic 2008 victory. We had hope and big plans for the years ahead.
While we were celebrating, Republicans were planning what became the biggest midterm election takeover in modern history. They organized, planned, and prepared with one thing in mind: revenge.
In 2010, Republicans flipped 63 House seats, 6 Senate seats, 720 state legislative seats, and sent extreme Tea Party candidates to Capitol Hill and state legislatures across the country.
To be honest, we are still feeling the impact of the 2010 midterm election. Republicans have worked hard to block progress in Michigan and across the country. They created divisive and hateful rhetoric that has now become their standard.
As I look ahead to 2022, I know that we need to work harder than we ever have before to make sure a repeat of 2010 does not happen. I need your help to make sure Team MDP has the resources to continue building our infrastructure to keep Michigan blue in 2022.
