Friend, the fate of President Biden’s Build Back Better Act is still unknown. Even though the bill passed the House, it is now up to the Senate to make it happen.

But just recently, Senator Joe Manchin went on Fox News and said he’d vote “No” on passing this important bill. And our representative, Henry Cuellar, supported Manchin’s refusal to do what’s right for our communities and our climate. Just like Senator Manchin, Rep. Cuellar repeatedly stood in the way of passing the Build Back Better Act — but the only difference is he lied to his constituents while pretending he supported it.

Cuellar opposed many key aspects of the budget, including tackling the climate crisis. He even touted his work with Senator Manchin during negotiations to kill the oil and gas provisions. What’s their shared interest? Receiving thousands in funding from Big Oil.

Our community has had enough of Cuellar’s refusal to do what’s right. He is hiding his 15-year track record of rolling back environmental protections. But I am ready to fight for critical legislation to address the climate crisis we are experiencing and help the most impacted communities.

Just this year alone, Texas faced serious consequences from climate disasters, from the power grid failures to extreme weather, our infrastructure was not prepared to handle. Just last month, ProPublica listed Laredo as a hotspot for industrial air pollution. We cannot continue to accept inaction by our current leadership. We have an urgent responsibility to address the scale, scope, and magnitude of the climate change crisis.

We can’t accept another minute of Henry Cuellar’s refusal to do what’s best for our country and the planet. It is time to unseat Henry Cuellar, who answers to his Big Oil donors.
