Dear John,

Here we are at the end of another remarkable year, filled with some of the highest highs and lowest lows in recent memory. And while many of us will gladly bid farewell to 2021, we have reasons to feel good (yes, good!) about the last 12 months and even better about the year ahead.

In 2021, we saw our mission enter a critical new phase. Driven in part by the devastating events of Jan. 6, and the ongoing assault on our democracy led by some of our state and national leaders, the Renew America Movement was born. RAM unites all of us—Americans from every political, racial, religious, and socioeconomic background—around 13 rock-solid American principles, the foundational truths that unify us at a time when so many forces seek to divide us.

Our goal in the new year? Support the Renewers in Congress who embrace these principles and have demonstrated a commitment to country over party—and help ensure that the Dividers, whose extremism threatens to tear the country apart, are unseated in the 2022 elections.

It won’t be easy. Let’s be clear-eyed about it: we’re facing down the biggest internal challenge to our republic since perhaps the Civil War. But by working together, we have the best chance to renew America at this most crucial moment.

The nation’s perseverance throughout the last year shows that America is still capable of great things when we rise to the occasion together. It is that can-do spirit that we must carry with us into the new year if we are to prevail. Let’s all resolve this year to work within our communities to strengthen the bonds of trust among our fellow citizens—the hallmark of a healthy democracy.

Though there’s much we can’t predict about the year ahead, we know for certain that, no matter what trials and tribulations we may experience, we will be stronger if we face them together. In 2022, we hope you’ll continue to help us build and fortify our national coalition of pro-democracy voters.
