A core part of our work here at ISF is holding our members of Congress accountable. We call them, write to them, and sometimes even protest against them - but importantly, we also regularly meet with their staff. If you would like to join us for our upcoming meeting with Senator Harris’s San Francisco staff, please fill out this Google Form ([link removed][UNIQID]) . Spaces are limited, and photo ID is required.

Help us stop ICE from establishing new private prison contracts. As you may know, ISF is proud to be an ally to many immigrants’ rights activist and support groups in the Bay Area, including Mujeres Unidas Y Activas, CIYJA, Hand In Hand, Pangea Legal Services, and more. We’ve supported deportation defense actions, donated to bond funds for ICE detainees to reunite them with their families, provided peacekeeper support at protests, and more. Most recently, we signed on to a proposal for the SF Board of Supervisors to protect asylum seekers who are victims of domestic violence. (More on that very soon!)

And now, there’s another thing we can do to help. You may remember that a few weeks ago, we celebrated the passage of AB32, a state law that prevents ICE from using private prisons in California, and prevents new private prisons from being created. Well, we just found out that ICE is trying to get around AB32 before it kicks in by rushing to lock in contracts with existing private prisons.

Call your Governor, Mayor, and State Legislators ([link removed][UNIQID]) to let them know what ICE is up to and to stop them! And, share the SF Chronicle story ([link removed][UNIQID]) about ICE’s plan widely. Don’t let ICE continue to imprison people for profit.

Impeachment Phone Banking Opportunity from Indivisible National: Sign up to make some calls connecting voters to senators to demand a complete and fair impeachment trial. Indivisible National identified 13 senators who really need to hear from their constituents (those who are vulnerable because they’re up for reelection next year, and those who are retiring and worrying a lot about their legacies). Now they're asking you to call voters in those states and ask them to turn up the pressure on their elected officials. You will be talking to voters about the power they have to pressure their MoC’s, and you will patch them through to their Senator. Sign up here ([link removed][UNIQID]) .

Wednesday, Nov 13, 6-8pm: Public Comment Hearing about Dredging the Bay for Oil Tankers at Pinole Public Library in Pinole. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will hold a public comment hearing in Pinole (in the East Bay) on the San Francisco Bay to Stockton Navigation Improvement Plan. This is a proposal to dredge Suisun Bay and the Carquinez Strait three feet deeper to enable ships (particularly oil tankers) to come into the Port of Stockton via the Sacramento River fully-loaded instead of light-loaded and at all times of day rather than just high tide.

This runs directly counter to what we need to do to arrest and reverse climate collapse. We know that well-informed, original public comment can slow or stop bad policy—this is an opportunity to give such comment in person. Learn more on Sunflower Alliance’s website here ([link removed][UNIQID]) .

Thursday, Nov 14, 5-8pm: Pen and Ink Brigade Art Fundraiser for Stacy Abrams’ Fair Fight 2020 at Industrious Life. Proceeds of this art show will go towards Stacey Abrams’ voter protection organization. Come to enjoy beautiful art and raise money for free and fair elections.
