I have an important question before tomorrow’s FEC deadline:

If you knew that $5 would represent our best chance to finally pass legislation making our communities safer from gun violence, wouldn’t it be the best $5 you ever contributed?

Well, that’s the opportunity we have today and why I’m asking you to split a $5 donation between Cheri Beasley’s campaign for U.S. Senate in North Carolina and my re-election.

She just became Democrats’ presumptive nominee, and if we win in North Carolina, there’s no doubt we’ll expand our majority. So I am asking:

Please split a $5 donation between Cheri’s campaign and my re-election before tomorrow’s FEC deadline. I would not ask if this were not so important.

The North Carolina Senate race is one of our best chances to pick up a seat in 2022.

It’s one of the few races that Cook Political Report rates a “tossup,” and the latest polling shows Cheri in a statistical tie with either of the likely Republican nominees.

Right now, we have a big opportunity to get a jump start on the general election while Republicans are stuck in a nasty primary between two far-right ideologues. On one side there’s Ted Budd, the Trump-endorsed, self-funding gun store owner, against Pat McCrory, the former governor best known for passing the anti-LGBTQ “bathroom bill.”

But Democrats in North Carolina have united behind Cheri, a public servant who has spent her life fighting for families. She went from public defender all the way to the state’s Supreme Court — becoming the first African American woman to serve as Chief Justice.

We need her voice in the Senate to change what’s possible in the Senate. She’s someone we can trust to be a champion for working families — not corporate interests or billionaires. And she’s committed to making real progress, even if it means ending the filibuster.

But first, she needs our help to win, and this FEC deadline is an important moment for us to show that we have what it takes to not just hold but expand our majority next year.

Will you split a $5 donation between Cheri Beasley’s Senate campaign and my re-election? We have to publicly report our fundraising numbers after the FEC deadline tomorrow, and a strong showing of grassroots support will make a big difference.
