Have you ever said to yourself, “If only there were more union members in public office”? Well, so have we. That’s why, two years ago, the AFL-CIO launched our Union Member Candidate Program to take the fight for working people from union halls to the halls of Congress and beyond.

Since 2017, the AFL-CIO has worked in partnership with state federations and local labor bodies to build and implement the program. In last year’s midterms alone, an astounding 964 union members were elected to public office across the country. 

But we’re not resting any time soon—we’re just getting started. We’re continuing our Union Member Candidate Program through next year’s election, to elect even more union members up and down the ballot. Together, we can make sure that real champions for working people are the ones writing our laws.
