John isn’t your average candidate. As the descendant of enslaved Marylanders, John’s candidacy represents the promise of generational progress. In just three generations, his family went from enslaved in a cabin to serving in the cabinet of the first Black President. Now, he’s running to be Maryland’s first Black and Puerto Rican Governor to build a just future for all Marylanders.

This isn’t your average Democratic primary. John is running in a crowded primary against establishment insiders, deep-pocketed celebrities, and supporters of anti-progressive policy. From supporting construction of a fracked gas pipeline, to abetting union-busting, to blocking climate change discussions, to opposing increased education funding, our opponents are not the unflinching progressive champions Marylanders need fighting for them in Annapolis.

There won’t be another moment like this. After 8 years of Republican leadership, hollow half-measures and lip service won't meet this moment. We need a bold leader like John King to lead the fight for progressive climate action, worker protections, and criminal justice reform to make Maryland a place where everyone has a seat at the table of opportunity, but it's going to take all of us to make it happen.
