Since 2014, City Limits has operated a paid internship training program for high-school and college-aged students in New York City who learn to apply the skills of investigative journalism as they report on issues affecting their own neighborhoods.

We are excited to introduce you to our summer class of investigative reporting interns, whose work you’ll see published on the site in the coming weeks:

Lakhsmi Chatterjee is a summer intern at City Limits. Born and raised in Brooklyn, she is currently a sophomore at Binghamton University and is an Arts & Culture Intern for Pipe Dream, the school’s student-run newspaper. As a first-generation American and daughter of Indian immigrants, she loves to learn about different cultures and the conflicts people face around the world. At Binghamton, she is a political science major with minors in history and human rights.

Hailey Del Valle is a writer, photographer, multimedia artist and social activist. She is a rising senior at Innovation Diploma Plus High school. In the spring of 2019, she produced “Feeling the Fallout,” a short documentary centered on the stresses and conditions placed on modern educators due to the social injustice that affects public school students. Her interests include music, public speaking, art history, feminism, Caribbean/Latin American culture, and media production.

Emanuel “Manoli” Figetakis is an intern at City Limits and recent graduate of Francis Lewis High School. He spent his high school years working for his school paper, interning for a few newspapers and has been involved in his community. He has a passion for journalism and plans to pursue it in the future, as well as photography and film.

|
Mia Gindis is a City Limits intern and a rising senior at Stuyvesant High School. Mia is a frequent contributor at The Spectator, Stuyvesant High School’s acclaimed newspaper, where she currently sits on the opinions department. She’s also won several honors for her work through the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, including a “Silver Key” award for an article she wrote about the relationship between women and Democrats. Mia has seen her work published in various magazines, including Teen Ink.

Rainier Harris is a rising junior at Regis High School. He is a Queens native. He plays the alto saxophone at Jazz at Lincoln Center, is an intern for YCteen, and is currently a summer intern at City Limits. Rainier plans to become an investigative journalist for his career. He is the founder and editor-in-chief of The Centrist Review and The Andreasperat.

Sadia Haque is a summer intern with the CLARIFY program, and originally joined City Limits in the spring of 2019 for their Introductory Reporting Internship. She is a recent graduate of The Bronx High School of Science where she was a staff writer for the school newspaper, The Science Survey. She will be attending Barnard College in the fall and hopes to study creative writing and history. Sadia lives on the border between Woodside and Jackson Heights, Queens, with her family.

Anna Rhoads, 17, is a summer intern with City Limits’ investigative journalism program. She graduated from Manhattan Center for Science and Mathematics, where she worked on the school’s newspaper, Rampage. Anna previously interned for City Limits in the fall of 2018. This fall, she will be attending Emory University in Atlanta, GA.

Brandon Yam is an investigative reporting intern who previously worked for City Limits in the spring of 2019. A rising junior at Francis Lewis High School, he grew up in Bayside, Queens, with his family of eight and books. He has worked for his school newspaper and combined his interest in journalism with creative writing to tap into his outlet, animate his words, and to be part of the publicity team at Teens Take Charge, as well as the teen fact-checking network at Poynter’s MediaWise.
