John,
As this year comes to a close, I can't help but think about our resilience and the challenges we've overcome by working together.
When the clock struck midnight on Jan. 1, 2021, so many of us were feeling isolated, experiencing anxiety about contracting the virus, or mourning family members who had passed. My heart goes out to each and every New Mexican who felt the agony of losing a loved one in the past year.
Little by little, we're moving past those dark times. New Mexico ran one of the most successful vaccination programs in the country – which allowed grandparents to safely hug their children without fear and friends to safely reunite after so many months apart. As we continue to address the pandemic, I'm so hopeful that we'll return to normalcy soon.
Despite the challenges we've faced, I'm proud to say that we've also made huge steps forward on our bold agenda in the past year. We strengthened education by improving equity in schools. We officially made cannabis legal. And we put money back into the pockets of struggling families by making progressive changes to our tax code.
Today, the future looks brighter than it did one year ago. As we enter my reelection year, I know that there's so much more in store for the Land of Enchantment. I have plans to invest in our educators, continue to act on the climate crisis, rebuild our infrastructure, and so much more.
All of this work is possible because of grassroots supporters like you, who stand up to advocate for the policies New Mexicans need to thrive. Thank you so much for your work this year.
I wish you and yours a very happy new year!
All the best,
Michelle Lujan Grisham
