It has been one full year since the attack on The Capitol on January 6.

Hey Indivisibles,

It has been almost a year since right-wing insurrectionists stormed the Capitol on January 6 in a futile attempt to overturn the election results of 2020, killing five people and terrorizing our nation.

Yet, the attempts by right-wing lawmakers to undermine our democracy continue on. In the past year alone, there have been state-level bills aimed at disenfranchising voters, politicians have attempted to gerrymander themselves into safe seats, Senate conservatives have propped up the anti-democratic filibuster and more. These are quiet -- and not so quiet -- preparations for future attempts to sabotage free and fair elections, and with them, our democracy.

We must not forget what happened -- and we must demand action from our leaders to prevent another attack on our democracy.

This January 6, exactly one year later, we are joining our partners to hold vigils nationwide. Americans across race, place, party, and background will come together with candles to say: In America, the voters decide the outcome of elections. We won’t let another Capitol Insurrection happen.

Find an event in your community on January 6!

Sign up to host a candlelight vigil in your community if there isn’t already one!

All Americans, regardless of race, sex, or religion have a right to fair elections and democracy. This is not a partisan issue, but a calling that unites us all as Americans. In order to prevent an egregious attack on our democracy from happening again, we must put pressure on our lawmakers to pass much needed legislation to protect our voting rights. If you aren’t able to attend any in-person candlelight vigils (or if you want to do more), we urge you to call your senators and tell them you demand they abolish the filibuster and protect our voting rights.

We must stand together in this moment -- we need to keep up the momentum for our freedom to vote. Coming together, we can prevent another January 6 attack and realize the promise of democracy for all of us.

In solidarity,

The Indivisible Team

Indivisible Project is a locally-led, people-powered movement of thousands of local groups in red, blue, and purple states, and in urban, suburban, and rural areas. Our mission is to power and lift up a grassroots movement of local groups to defeat the Trump agenda, elect progressive leaders, and realize bold progressive policies.

Grassroots donations, not foundations or large gifts, are our single largest source of funding. That means we’re accountable to, and fueled by, Indivisibles on the ground. Chip in $7 to keep fueling our movement.
